An annual book festival is making its rounds promoting children’s literacy and celebrating excellence in Canadian literanture.

The Vancouver Island Children’s Book Festival, also known as Bookfest, will stop at elementary schools from Parksville to Ladysmith and at Vancouver Island Regional Libraries, including Gabriola Island’s branch, until April 28.

According to a release for the event, the visiting presenters will share their work, tell stories about their lives and inspire youth through literature, art and and lively interactive sessions.

For 38 years, Bookfest has hosted more than 150 esteemed authors from B.C. and across the country. This year’s list of presenters include Elaine Chen, Gabrielle Grimard, Andrea Fritz and April Hilland.

The authors and illustrators will present to elementary schools, and on the weekends, present additional free sessions at local libraries.

The presenter’s books will be for sale at these sessions. Books will also be for sale at Salamander Books, Treehouse Books and Windowseat Books.
