The Nanaimo Clippers’ season has come to an end after a first-round playoff loss to an Island rival.

The Clippers were beaten by the Victoria Grizzlies four games to one in the B.C. Hockey League playoffs, with the Grizz taking Game 5 by a 3-0 score on Friday, April 12, down the Malahat.

Nanaimo was outshot 47-23 in the series finale, with goalie Chazz Nixon making 44 saves, including stopping all 21 shots he faced in the first period to give his teammates a chance.

“Not the result we wanted but that’s a wrap on the season,” the Clippers posted on social media. “A massive thank you to everyone that made it possible. We’ll come back stronger next season.”

Mike Murtagh, Isa Parekh and Brett Merner were Nanaimo’s top scorers in the playoffs with five points each and Joel Plante was the leading goal scorer in the playoffs with three.
